SCS Sets Kindergarten Registration and Screening

Sidney City Schools kindergarten screening and registration for the 2018-2019 school year will be held April 9-13, 2018, at Connection Point Church, 1510 Campbell Road, Sidney. Children must be five years of age on or before August 1, 2018, to enroll in the Sidney City Schools kindergarten program. To schedule a screening time, parents/guardians are asked to contact their home elementary building secretary before March 23, 2018. 

SCS Latchkey Now Accepting Registrations Latchkey Logo

Sidney City Schools is proud to offer Latchkey for the 2018-2019 school year. Beginning August 16, 2018, families can get affordable, supervised before and/or after school care for district students enrolled in grades K-5. Latchkey registration is now open. 

District Responds to ECOT Closure

January 29, 2018 - Students throughout Ohio were left in academic limbo after the online charter school Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow - ECOT - lost its sponsorship a little over a week ago and abruptly shut down. Affecting 40 Sidney students, the Sidney City School District’s administration has been reaching out to families to help them find a place for their child to finish out the school year – back in the classroom or online.  

District Spelling Bee Winners 2017-2018 Sidney Spelling Bee Winners

January 29, 2018 - Elementary schools in the Sidney City School District, as well as Sidney Middle School, recently held their school-wide spelling bees. The winner and runner-up(s) at each school will go on to compete in the citywide spelling bee in on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at 7pm at Sidney Middle School.

Conley Wins Northwood Spelling Bee Northwood Spelling Bee Winners

December 18, 2017 - Northwood Elementary held their spelling bee on December 14, 2017. 26 students in third, fourth, and fifth grade participated in the bee, which went 10 rounds. Fourth grade student Keegan Conley, son of Matt and Dana Conley, won the bee by correctly spelling ‘affirmation.’ Fifth grade student Parker Slaven, son of Allen and Jennifer Slaven, was the first runner-up, with fifth grade student Alex Holbrook, son of Shane and Jennifer Holbrook, finishing as the second runner-up. Meggan Weaver, retired SCS Gifted and Talented Coordinator, was the pronouncer. Instructional Support Specialists Jill Hanke and Lindsay Geuy and Title I teacher Lori Billing were the judges. 

Four to Join Hall in April 2018

December 16, 2017 - Four new inductees were selected to the Sidney City Schools Hall of Honor this week and will be enshrined on Friday evening April 20, 2018 in the Sidney High School auditorium beginning at 7pm. The public is invited to attend this 25th annual event and the reception that follows in the adjacent gymnasium. The Hall will have 127 members with these additions.

Record-Breaking Year for United Way Campaign

November 15, 2017 - Sidney City Schools had a record-breaking year of giving to the Shelby County United Way with a campaign total of $42,255 for the entire district. Employees of the Sidney City School District made generous gifts and pledges totaling $38,633. Students donated $891. The Turf’s Up scrimmage event Sidney Athletics hosts in conjunction with the Shelby County United Way brought in $2,731 this year.

November 7, 2017 - Sidney Middle School student Cutberto Ramirez and his father Andres received a very special surprise this morning - a brand new wheelchair!

October 23, 2018 - SHS junior Megan Marlow and her teacher and ally, Mrs. Cheryl Clark recently attended a 3-day conference, Project STIR in Columbus, Ohio. STIR stands for Steps Toward Independence and Responsibility. Project STIR is a training program to promote a successful transition to the community for students with disabilities. During this conference Megan and Cheryl learned how to know yourself better, communicate assertively, and be responsible.

Clayton & Burns Receive OHSAA Award Tim Clayton & Ron Burns accept OHSAA State Award for Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity.

September 23, 2017 - On Friday, at Sidney's home varsity football game vs. West Carrollton, Mr. Tim Clayton and Mr. Ron Burns were recognized on behalf of the Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Committee of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.  

Cargill to Team Up With Ferguson Construction for 4th Grade Perfect Attendance Program

September 14, 2017 - Ferguson Construction has agreed to be the co-sponsor, along with Cargill, for the fourth grade perfect attendance program in Sidney City Schools. The partnership will ensure that any fourth grader who achieves perfect attendance for the school year will be rewarded with a new bike at the yearend assembly.

May 24, 2017 - At the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, Cargill Cares approached Sidney City Schools and proposed an idea to promote attendance – a free bike at the end of the school year to every fourth grader with perfect attendance. This week, the Cargill Cares team delivered nearly 30 bikes to the four Sidney elementary schools. 

Northwood Student Council Celebrates Cancer Awareness. Northwood aide Wince Morris and principal Eric Barr get blasted with water balloons by 5th grade students - a prize for the class from each grade that raised the most money to benefit Shelby County Relay for Life.

Northwood Elementary Student Council sponsored a cancer awareness spirit week last week, with each day highlighting a different type of cancer. Students sold tickets for raffle baskets with items donated by staff and generous area businesses. The students also participated in a money war, with the winning class from each grade getting to throw water balloons at various staff members. The entire school also took part in a cancer awareness walk.

May 10, 2017 - The Sidney Education Association held their awards dinner Tuesday, May 9, at the Moose Lodge. The evening, filled with laughter and tears, celebrated various teachers for accomplishments and achievements throughout the year, as well as those from the community who have positively impacted the education of Sidney City Schools students.
