Calamity Days & What They Mean for SCS Snowflake Illustration

Given the weather we've had so far during the 2018-19 school year, and taking into account the upcoming forecasts of bitter cold to come, questions have been raised about the potential of having to make up calamity days as we used to do in the past. The state now goes by hours versus days. The hour requirements are 910 hours for grades K-6 and 1,001 hours for grades 7-12. Sidney City Schools well-exceeds these hours each year. Taking into account breaks, days off for professional development, holidays, etc., our elementary schools exceed the state requirement by 128 hours, middle school by 80 hours, and high school by 137 hours. Given that all of our schools exceed the state's hour requirements, we don't foresee having to make up any days. Should this change, we will be sure to communicate with families in due time.
