For Families

Welcome to Sidney City Schools, a regional education leader meeting the needs of all students. It is our mission to provide a superior education and to ensure that all students realize their mazimum potential. Sidney City Schools strive to educate all students to achieve excellence, be responsible students, and become prepared for futher education and productive employment.

The Sidney City School District serves the City of Sidney and the Villages of Port Jefferson and Maplewood. Each of the four neighborhood elementary schools (Emerson, Longfellow, Northwood and Whittier) serve students in grades kindergarten through fifth, with the exception of Emerson Elementary which only serves students kindergarten through fourth grade. Sidney Middle School serves students in grades fifth through eighth. Sidney High School serves students in grades ninth through twelfth. Sidney Alternantive School serves students in all grades  with 3 Emotionally Disturbed (ED) classes, an alternative school class for students with severe behavior issues, and a transitional alternative school class to prepare students with moderate behavoir issues to transition back into general education classroom environments.

Our district is made up of approximately 3,500 students, 7 schools, 200 teachers and 200 classified staff such as aides, custodians, bus drivers, cooks and secretaries. Additionally, each school has a security officer and trained emergency response team for student and staff safety.

Education doesn’t begin and end with the school day, but rather it is a process that extends beyond the classroom into home, work, and social activities. At Sidney City Schools, we feel that in order for a student to be successful in the classroom, parental involvement is crucial. Together we can foster the growth of our children to help them realize their potential.
