Columbus State cross country runner Stevie Shepherd (Sidney/Sidney HS) was named a NJCAA all-American for her performance at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DIII Women’s Cross Country Championships. The meet was held on Sat, Nov. 12 at the Finger Lakes XC Course in Canandaigua, New York. Shepherd led the women to finish as national runner-up, the team’s best finish in program history.
Shepherd's time of 20:39.2 and sixth place finish put her at second-team all-American status, a nine-place improvement from last season's national championships where she finished 15th overall. She is only the second women's cross country runner in school history to achieve all-American status twice.
The Cougars came into the meet ranked No. 2 in the country behind Harper College. This year marks the sixth time the women's cross country team has made the trip to the NJCAA DIII National Championships.
