March 13, 2017 - Four band and choir groups participated in the OMEA (Ohio Music Educator Association) adjudicated large group contests March 3-4, 2017. At these events, ensembles from all over southwest Ohio perform for a panel of three distinguished music educators who give a rating to the ensemble based on their performance. The groups are also required to sight-read a piece they have never seen before to demonstrate music comprehension skills.
The groups are rated on the following scale:
I: Superior rating
II: Excellent rating
III: Good rating
IV: Poor rating
V: Very Poor rating
Each of the three judges give a rating based on each ensemble's prepared pieces and a separate judge gives a rating based on their sight-reading abilities, creating a total of 4 ratings. They average the scores to create an overall rating.
Sidney High School's Concert Band received an overall II (Excellent rating); the Wind Ensemble received straight I's (all Superior ratings).
Sidney High School's Symphonic Choir received straight I's (all Superior ratings); the Women's Glee received an overall II (Excellent rating).
