2017 SMS Awards

June 1, 2017 - Sidney Middle School recently held its academic awards programs for grades 5-8. Awards were presented by principals Diane Voress, Kevin Boerger, and Chris Barr, as well as various classroom teachers. Honor roll awards were presented to students who achieved accordingly for all the first 3 nine-weeks grading periods. Perfect attendance students were entered in drawings for $50 cash prize incentives. Student Council members acted as ushers. The Friend of SMS Award went this year to the first shift custodian Mike Hughes for all the outstanding service he does for our students outside of his work day.

5th Grade Program

Isaac Basil, Aurora Caudill, David Delaney, Emily Fleming, Aiden Cox, Caitlynn Hansen, Sam New, Nathan Siegel, and Carter Strunk were recognized as participants in the Emerson spelling bee. SMS Geography Bee participants were Aiden Cox, Gabe Harter, Brooklyn Koester, and Teegan Shoe.

Fifth graders earning special classroom recognitions were as follows: All-Star Student Awards-Nick Fenton, Maddie VanDeGrift, Haley Fogt, Nathan Siegel, Will Boshears, and Hailey Richardson; Responsibility Awards-Maddie VanDeGrift, Haley Foft, Logan Shaw, Jennifer Carmona-Campos, Nick Fenton, Olivia Voress, Brandi Engstrom, Emily Fleming, and Hailee Childs; Most Improved Student Award-Samantha Marlow.

6th Grade Program

Alexis Hall was recognized for spelling bee honors while Laina Hitchcock was recognized for geography bee honors.

8th Grade Program

At the 8th grade program Curtis Spangler received the Joe Ward MVP award for track. Paul Topalov was recognized for qualifying for state competition in the geography bee and Emily Birkemeier was recognized for her spelling bee achievements.

The 8th grade GOOD award was received by Bryanna Tamplin. The Archie Griffin Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity awards went to Lauren Barker and Cedric Johnson. The Sidney Middle School Students of the Year were Olivia Wise and Joshua Webster.

Band awards for grades 6-8 were presented as follows: 6th Grade Achievement Awards went to Anna Brady, Paige Daniels, Desiree Miller, Thomas Sibert, and Chloe Graber. Marco Orozco and Paul Topalov received Most Outstanding Awards. Most Improved were Korah Hernandez and Landon Deam. Hunter Croft was honored with the Director’s Award. For orchestra, awards were presented to Andrew Bonifas, Cassie Trudeau, and Levi Steenrod for Most Outstanding Musicians; Jayden Craun received Most Improved Award. Jaden Humphrey was awarded the Orchestra Director’s Award.
