Kindergarten Screening 2020 Kindergarten Screening 2020

Sidney City Schools has set dates for kindergarten screening and registration for the 2020-2021 school year. Due to the opening of Whittier Early Childhood Center, screening will look different this year. Current WECC students DO NOT need to attend screening. Only new enrollees (those not attending WECC) need to schedule an appointment for screening. 

Children must be five years of age on or before August 1, 2020, to enroll in the Sidney City Schools kindergarten program. Early entry children, including those who currently attend WECC, may be considered and must go through the screening process. 


Wilson Health Clinic Opens at Sidney City Schools Wilson Health at Sidney City Schools ribbon cutting ceremony

 There’s a need in Sidney City Schools that is being addressed, according to school superintendent, Bob Humble. “In order for kids to achieve and succeed, they’ve got to be in school,” says Humble. “And one of the biggest barriers is not having quick access to medical care. Students are missing out on valuable learning time because of it and we want to change that.”

Sidney City Schools, in collaboration with Wilson Health, is pleased to open a school-based clinic to serve students, staff, and the community at large. 

Davis to get Banner Josie Davis

Following a very successful meeting between SHS wrestler Josie Davis, her father, Jeff Davis, Sidney Athletic Director Mitch Hoying, and Sidney Superintendent Bob Humble, Sidney City Schools is happy to say Davis will get a banner for her recent state championship at the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association and will be recognized at an upcoming board meeting. 

District to Offer Shuttle Bus from Northwood to Primary Schools School Bus

In an effort to help out parents picking up siblings at more than one school, the district will now be offering an afternoon-only shuttle bus service from Northwood Intermediate to Emerson and Longfellow Primary. Service will begin Monday, November 4. Students taking advantage of the shuttle bus can either be picked up at the primary schools or may walk home with their siblings.

**UPDATE** Now open to ANY NORTHWOOD STUDENT going to the primary schools - A PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST COMPLETE THE FORM LINKED IN THE ARTICLE. Your child will not ride until they receive confirmation from the school. Shuttle service to those recently confirmed who do not have a sibling at either primary school will begin Monday, November 11.  



Congressman Highlights 2020 Hall of Honor Selections

January 22, 2020 - Four new inductees were elected to the Sidney City Schools Hall of Honor this week and will be enshrined on Friday evening April 17, 2020 at Sidney High School with a 6pm gymnasium reception preceding the 7pm auditorium induction, marking the debut of a new format. The public is invited to attend both components of this 27th annual event. The Hall will have 135 members with these additions.

SHS Academia Wins Shelby County Competition 12 Years in a Row SHS Academia 2019-2020

Sidney High School Academia has been named, for the 12th year in a row, the Shelby County Champions. Having gone undefeated in the Shelby County league for all of the matches the past twelve years, SHS also won the post-season competition. The group is gearing up for Miami Valley League action on December 17. SHS is 156-15-1 against GWOC/MVL opponents since 2010 and is 83-0-1 against current MVL opponents since 2010. 

SHS Academia members include seniors Conner Nuss, Jay Sherman, Ben Spangler, Blake Steenrod, Whitney Petty, Lovisa Wormbs, and Nobel Zhou. Junior members include Cody Carr and Hunter Croft. Sophomore members are Sarah Bell, Ava Westfall, and Carter Nuss.

OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal at SHS Ohio Means Jobs Readiness Seal Logo & Diploma.

In 2018, the Ohio Department of Education introduced a new initiative to recognize high school students who show they are prepared to contribute to the workplace and their community. The OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal is a formal designation that students can earn on their high school diplomas and transcripts indicating they have the personal strengths, strong work ethic, and the professional experience that businesses need. 


Sidney High School Career-Based Intervention instructor, Mary Ellen Buechter, is proud to announce the Scott Family McDonald's and Sgt. Coey of the US Army will be co-sponsoring the OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal program for Sidney High School students and will be serving as mentors.  

SHS' Nobel Zhou Named National Merit Commended Student Nobel Zhou stand with former Orchestra Director Janet Fu.

Sidney High School Principal Denny Morrison is pleased to announce that Nobel Zhou has been named a Commended Student in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to this scholastically talented senior.
