The Hall of Honor was the brainchild of future inductee Lew Blackford (SHS 1959) during his term as Superintendent of Schools. By 1993 he had both a committee and plan in place to begin honoring graduates, employees, and supporters who had made a profound positive difference in the operation and/or image of the Sidney City Schools since their founding in the mid-1800's.

In the spring of 1994, the Hall moved quickly and decisively to induct its first ten members. As of today, more than 125 people have received Sidney City School's highest honor of induction into the Hall of Honor.
The Hall of Honor Committee is guided by a set of by-laws that has evolved over time, and been adjusted to current needs and circumstances. However, the primary guiding force behind this activity is its Mission Statement: "The purpose will be to recognize and honor those persons who through their performance and achievements reflect credit on the Sidney City Schools so that present-day students may find identity with the past and establish goals for the future. The Hall of Honor will reinforce and enhance a positive image of the Sidney City Schools both inside and outside the district, as it also strives to foster an increased sense of pride among students, faculty, staff, alumni, and residents."
